New Hampshire Summer Math Circle

The New Hampshire Math Circle held its Summer Math Circle from August 23 to August 27 at Rivier University in Nashua. 12 students collaborated with mentors Professor Teresa Magnus, Mark Longtin, and Mike Wenger on some unusual mathematics. Participants in the Encoders session learned about number theory topics such as the Euclidean algorithm, Fermat’s Little Theorem, modular inverses, and culminated with implementing working cryptographic system. Students in the Explorers session investigated iterated functions and dynamic systems, the math of the card game SET, and finished with an study of mathematical harmony, using violin, piano, guitar, and sine wave oscillators. The participants were rewarded for their hard work with the best ice cream in Nashua. More information about the Summer Math Circle is available here.
